4/5

My name is Mrs. Gagnon and I’m originally from Caribou, Maine.  My husband and I have lived in NH for approximately 35 years!  We have three sons, one daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters.  Our youngest son is engaged to be married in 2022, and we are thrilled to gain another daughter-in-law!  We own a lake house in western Maine and enjoy all four seasons that New England has to offer.  On weekends, I am either boating, swimming, waterskiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, or simply enjoying my family either at our home in Madison or at our lake house in Maine.

I began my teaching career in Freedom, NH teaching kindergarten and preschool. This is my 22nd year teaching at John Fuller!  Oh my, where does the time go?  I have taught grades 4 and 5 and love teaching this age group!  We quickly become a positive classroom environment where lots of different learning takes place.  Everyone in our classroom community is respected and admired for their unique qualities.  Teaching children from pre-school up through fifth grade has proven to me that teaching is my passion.  I am looking forward to another great year at John Fuller Elementary School!

As you all know, my name is Mrs. Coffey. I was born in northern New Hampshire and attended college in Vermont. I have lived in the Mount Washington Valley for over 20 years, and truly love where I live!  Many of you have seen me on the playground or in the hallways at school, as this is my 17th year working here at John Fuller Elementary School. I am proud to work at such a wonderful school with such a fabulous group of students and staff.

My three favorite jobs in life are being a wife, a mom, and a teacher. I have been married for 20 years to my best friend and husband Matt, Mr. Coffey. :)  He is very supportive and always brainstorming, building, and creating new things for my classroom and our school. I am a mom of two amazing boys who also attend John Fuller; I am so lucky to be their mom and watch them grow both in school and at home. As a family we enjoy being outdoors as much as possible and having as many adventures as we can together.  In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, camping, gardening, and one of my favorite pastimes is running.

As a teacher, I want you to know that my students become part of my “school” family. I think that making connections with students is one of the most important things we can do as educators to help our students. As a class, we spend many hours together creating a learning environment that each child can feel safe, respected, and included. Once students are comfortable in their learning environment, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to watch the growing and learning begin.

From an early age, I have always wanted to be a teacher and help others. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else … I love my job as a teacher and I am excited for a great school year!

This is my sixth year teaching at John Fuller - during my time at JFS I have taught 2nd grade, 2/3 multiage, 5th grade, and now 4/5 multiage! I love the deep conversations 4th and 5th graders have about their books, their observations, and the world around them. I LOVE teaching math and science as they are my favorite subjects - I do sudokus and logic puzzles for fun and I am always wondering "Why..." and researching to learn how things work.

I grew up in the Mount Washington Valley, and I'm so lucky to be back after studying at Connecticut College and teaching 6th grade in CT. Last year, I completed my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction through Lesley University. Being in the valley, I enjoy hiking with my golden retriever, Luna, who is 5 years old. I love dogs so much that I volunteer with Assistance Canine Training Services raising and training dogs to become facility dogs and service dogs. I'm currently raising my third A.C.T.S. pup, Hunter. I also have fun playing ice hockey!

I knew at an early age that I wanted to be a teacher. As a young girl, I spent many hours playing school. After graduating high school I attended Plymouth State University where I received my undergraduate degree in Child and Family Services. After that I received my first career related job in 2009 working as a paraprofessional at John Fuller Elementary. While I worked in that capacity, I completed my master’s degree in Education. In 2011, I acquired my first teaching position as a third grade teacher. Since then I have also taught fifth grade and now a multiage 4/5 classroom.

Teaching literacy is my passion. I love to read and to have meaningful book talks with students. I enjoy reading YA novels, historical fiction, and fantasy book series. Although I’m not much of a writer, teaching writing is my favorite! One of my goals is to help each student use their creativity and voice in their writing while teaching them strategies and the writing process. Our writing community is a special place that encourages all students to feel safe, have fun, collaborate, and make connections.  ~ Mrs. Hodgkins~
