 Mrs Preece
SCHEDULE: Full Day Kindergarten 9:00-3:15 (Please do not arrive before 8:40am)

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is available each morning. The cost is $1.90 with reduced at $.30 (application forms for free or reduced breakfast are available in the office).

LUNCH: Hot lunch is available each day for $2.90 and .40 for reduced.

SNACK: We have a snack time everyday. Your child may bring a simple healthy snack and a drink. Milk, orange juice and apple juice are available for .50 cents. Please note that there is no free or reduced option for snack drinks. Please send money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. It is easier if you pay weekly, monthly or even pay for the whole year at once.

BACKPACKS: A decent sized backpack is useful to help each student organize personal belongings. (winter clothing, folders, snacks, water bottles)

IMPORTANT PAPERS: Your child will have a folder to help us communicate with you. We send it home as needed, so please check for your child’s folder each day. You may find important papers to return to school ASAP or completed work your child can keep at home. Folders should always come back the next day even if there are no papers to sign.

CLOTHING: Often we will go outside so please have your child dress for the weather. Our classrooms can be chilly so you might want to send a sweat-shirt or sweater to school each day.

TRANSPORTATION: If there is a change in routine, please send a written note indicating the change.

BIRTHDAYS: If it is your child’s birthday, you are welcome to send in a special snack for everyone in the class. We recommend healthy snacks for the children rather than candy and sweets. Please send a note ahead of time to let us know and check with us for food allergies.

*If you are having a party for your child, we would appreciate it if you would not ask us to send home invitations from school unless the whole class is invited since feelings are easily hurt at this age. We appreciate your understanding.

PARENT CONFERENCES: We have routine parent conferences scheduled for the first and third terms (November and April). Report cards will be issued quarterly. Please feel free to meet with us or call us at anytime throughout the year.

LIBRARY: Children have the opportunity to take a book out of the school library each week. Books must be returned before a new book can go home. The book return bin is located in the classroom.

BOOK ORDERS: A Scholastic book order form will be sent home monthly. This offers parents an opportunity to buy books at a reasonable rate. You are under no obligation to purchase anything.

TOYS: Toys from home are not allowed in the classroom. They tend to be a distraction during learning time and feelings are often hurt if a toy gets lost or broken.

SCREENING: In September, all students in Kindergarten will be screened in the following areas: speech, hearing, knowledge of basic concepts and motor skills. This screening will help us plan the best possible program for your child. There will be more information to follow.

TITLE 1 SERVICE: If the screening indicates that your child could use support in their learning, they may qualify for Title 1 intervention. This small group instruction would be provided by our Title 1 teacher. We would schedule a conference with you to explain how the Title 1 program would be implemented for your child.

VOLUNTEERING: There will be many opportunities to volunteer or chaperone during the school year. You may like to help out in the classroom during learning centers or join us for a class party or field trip. For the safety of your child, it is now the school’s policy that all volunteers be fingerprinted before working with students. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering. We greatly appreciate and welcome parent participation.

Looking forward to a great year!
